Testimonials

"Sue has been an immense support through a difficult relationship ending. She has helped me to change my thought process and supported in a reflective and constructive process that has helped in my day to day life. I find Sue a warm and caring person who set me at ease from the first meeting. She has been a great support. Many thanks."

"The counselling I received helped tremendously. If I hadn't got help when I did things could have got a lot worse. Counselling helped me put things into perspective. Sue helped me towards gaining my confidence and my happiness back. I'd already made the move towards sanity myself, Sue provided the encouragement and assurance I needed to continue. I still battle with anxiety but I can deal with it far better than before and I will always be grateful."

"During my time with Sue, I found the sessions to be of great benefit. After going through a difficult marriage break-up, Sue listened intently, never judging, only supportive of positives that she felt I showed. I would recommend counselling, especially Sue. I would not hesitate contacting this service again if I felt the need to talk again. Many thanks Sue."

"Sue's knowledge of CBT and surrounding areas has helped me understand my actions/behaviours/feelings and encouraged new ways of dealing with negative thoughts and feelings. Sue has been very supportive and I would like to thank her for all her help."

"I have found these sessions very intense on times, but to get and deal with thoughts and feelings, I realise you need to deal with them head on, even if you don't like what you see. After 7 sessions I feel much more positive and realise the only way forward is to reflect rationally on things. And I would highly recommend therapy. I wish I did it much sooner."

"I have found the sessions with Sue far better than I thought they would be. I feel she has empowered me to make my own decisions which in turn has made me feel like the truly independent person I have always wanted to be. I would recommend her counselling to anyone i thought was struggling to cope. Thank you Sue."

"I am extremely pleased and grateful for the counselling I have received. My mood has completely changed for the better, thanks to these sessions. I would recommend this to anyone that is struggling to cope. Thanks so much."

"I was on a very difficult journey, with no clear direction. Sue helped me look at myself and circumstances in an objective and honest way, and provided me with the tools to move my life forward. Thank you so much."

"When I came to counselling I didn't know what I really wanted from my sessions. All I did know was I wasn't enjoying my life very much and it was time to change. I am so happy that my journey of self discovery has opened my eyes and has let me see the world so differently. With help from CBT I now have the tools to enjoy life. I know I'll encounter some difficult life challenges from time to time, especially being a full time working mother of two, but I am confident that I'll deal with them differently from now on, and that the negative thinking won't take over and rule my thoughts. I have learned that happiness is they key to life. To be writing this about myself makes me so proud and I can honestly say that I am now smiling from the inside out!"

Online Counselling with Me

Hello and Welcome!

You are invited to join me from the comfort of your own home, or another confidential space on video via Zoom or WhatsApp (or telephone). Online intervention has been shown to be as effective as in-person help and cuts out travel time and other inconveniences, whether this be counselling, supervision, or hypnotherapy.

Nearly all of us need a little help with life's challenges, from time to time. I offer confidential, caring counselling, and I can work with you so that you:

  • Appreciate your self-worth and accept yourself
  • Reach your potential, the best version of you
  • Discover who you are, the authentic you
  • Emerge from the debilitating darkness of depression
  • Escape the life-limiting constraints of anxiety
  • Manage stress
  • Cope with the devastation of bereavement
  • Address unwanted behaviours
  • Overcome the painful effects of trauma

Why Choose Me?

I have worked consistently with clients within the counselling profession since 2009, volunteering at first before starting in private practice in 2011 (in person until March 2020, remote since then). I aim to offer you a safe space where we can grow a therapeutic relationship together, allowing you to explore your thoughts and feelings and enabling you to address any changes you feel appropriate with compassion and curiosity.

I am trained in the integrative approach with person-centred as the bedrock, so how I work with you will be a unique blend of modalities that are the best fit for you. I am dedicated to continuing professional development. I believe in the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT/REBT) and Mindfulness and often use concepts, techniques, and practices from these. I am particularly excited by the fact that we have the ability to become aware of our thoughts and that, with practice, we can choose those which serve us well. This and learning how to relate differently to thoughts, feelings, and our physiology can change our emotional state, altering how we feel.

FAQs

Q. When should I seek help?

  • When the timing is right for you
  • When you're experiencing emotional shock
  • If you're struggling with 'complicated grief' or your grieving process has been stunted somehow
  • When you're challenged by worry, stress, or low mood
  • When you're making important life decisions
  • During significant life transitions
  • If you're in emotional burnout
  • To address unwanted behaviors
  • If you would like to get to know yourself better and be the best version of you

Q. Is this counselling confidential?

A. Yes, absolutely. Counselling is a confidential space where you can be freely uncensored and free from judgment. The only limits to confidentiality would be disclosure of risk of harm to self or others, or links to terrorism or money laundering, as I have legal obligations here.

Q. What type of counselling do you offer?

A. My discipline is Integrative counselling, where I use a bespoke mix of therapeutic approaches that are the best fit for you. While my work is underpinned by the person-centered approach, I also incorporate principles of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT/REBT) and Mindfulness. I am now pleased to also offer Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), aka 'Tapping,' and Clinical Hypnotherapy.

Q. How many sessions will I need?

A. The number of sessions depends on you as an individual and the issues you bring. You can choose to book a block of sessions (usually 6), where I offer a discount, or we can 'play it by ear.' I offer short and long-term work. I welcome feedback at each meeting on how you feel things are going in terms of progress, direction, or changes to the particular therapeutic approach we are using.

Q. How often will we meet?

A. Usually, sessions will be weekly, particularly at the start of the therapeutic relationship so that the flow of the process is not interrupted. We can discuss and tailor the frequency based on your individual needs.

Q. What are the fees?

A. The fee is £45 per session, with concessions depending on circumstances, including for full-time students and student counselors. Ask about a discount for block bookings. I am affiliated with the following EAPs: Care-First, Health Assured, Telus/Life Works, and Workplace Options. I am also linked to Mates in Mind. Ask your employer if you can access help through any of these.

Q. How do I pay?

A. Payment is gratefully received by BACs, with a minimum of 48 hours in advance of the session.
